JOB PURPOSE: Provide start-up and in process dimensional inspection for the sheet metal and machine shop areas.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

• Reviews all documents relating to the job at hand.
• Selects appropriate, in-calibration measurement and testing equipment.
• Performs start-up inspection and documents results to allow production to commence.
• Performs periodic in-process dimensional inspection on random parts selected from production and documents results to provide assurance that in-process quality levels are not drifting from those confirmed during start-up.
• Performs in-process visual inspection on random parts selected from production and documents results to provide assurance that in-process quality levels are not drifting from those confirmed during start-up.
• Initiate nonconformance reports (NCR’s) and contains all suspect product upon detection of nonconforming materials.
• Reports in-process quality performance to quality engineering.
• Maintains clean and tidy workspace.

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Capable of operating measurement equipment (micrometers, calipers, height gages, etc.)
• Preferred prior experience in similar measurement/testing role.
• Ability to read product drawings, blue prints.
• Keen eye for detail.
• Able to read and understand basic quality control/assembly work instructions.
• High school diploma, GED or equivalent work experience

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

No direct reports to this position.

SKILLS / ABILITIES:

• Sufficient computer literacy to be able to enter data to Excel spreadsheets, navigate L&T’s IT systems (ERP system, SharePoint, etc.)
• Good communication skills, both written and verbal.
• Must maintain confidentiality of work-related information and materials.
• Must establish and maintain effective working relationships.
• Ability to work in a diverse environment and be sensitive to issues of diversity and inclusion.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

• While performing duties of this job, the employees is regularly required to sit, stand and walk for extended periods of time.
• Must be able to lift 25 pounds.
• Prolonged viewing of computer monitors and screens.
• Repetitive motion (use of mouse and keyboard).

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

• Use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) or protective gear is required.
• Frequently exposed to risk outside diameter (OD) electrical shock.
• Frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts, humid condition, fumes or airborne particles, flying metal burrs and chips and possible chemical irritants such as water-based coolants, hydraulic oils, degreasing soap and mineral spirit.
• The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
• Occasionally exposed to uncomfortable cold or heat.
